Brown Watersnake

Nerodia taxispilota

Average size:  30-55 inches; Record 69.5 inches.  Young are 7-11 
inches at birth.

Range:  Throughout Florida panhandle and peninsula.  Not found in the keys.

Diet:  Mainly fish and frogs.

Status:  Common  

Can be found in swamps, marshes, ponds, lakes, streams, and rivers.  

This snake is often mistaken for the venomous Water Moccasin (Eastern Cottonmouth)
