Range: Throughout Florida including the Keys.
Diet: Mainly rodents and birds.
Status: Their population is declining because of habitat reduction and road mortality along with the indiscriminate killing and commercial hunting for their skins.
This is a large and potentially dangerous rattlesnake that can strike up to 2/3 of its body length. If you encounter one, stay a healthy distance from it and move on.
