Short-tailed Kingsnake

Lampropeltis extenuata

Average size: 14-20inches; Record 25.75 inches.

Range: Upland northcentral Florida, west of the St. Johns River.

Diet: It's believed that it may prey solely on the Florida crowned snake (Tantilla relicta).  However, it may feed on small smooth-scaled lizards such as the Ground skink (Scincella lateralis).  There is one record of one feeding on a Florida Worm Lizard (Rhineura floridana).

Status: State listed as threatened. It is seldom seen above ground.
